Since its inception in Melbourne, Australia in 2004, the St Jerome’s Laneway Festival has become synonymous with hot summer days, picturesque locations and diverse, forward-thinking line-ups full of vital, surprising bands. Favouring cutting edge talent over mainstream success, Laneway has consistently delivered compelling, boundary-pushing acts to discerning punters, who have responded overwhelmingly and become integral in propelling many of these acts to even greater heights. Laneway has become Australia and New Zealand’s most well regarded boutique Festival, with tickets for the festivals consistently selling out each year.
In 2011, Laneway returns with an outstanding line-up and its debut Festival in Asia. Singapore is elated to be finally staging its inaugural Laneway Festival and is honoured to be the first date on the Festival’s 2011 calendar.
Laneway co-founder and promoter Danny Rogers said: “We have chosen the historic Fort Canning Park, with its botanical setting and landmark, imposing gothic gate entrance, for our inaugural Festival. This immensely popular site is well known, easily accessible and adequately resourced with public transport close by.” Laneway partner and promoter Michael Chugg said: “The epic party planning has just begun, and we guarantee an unforgettable day and night of musical discovery and revelry that will be filed under the ‘I was there list’ for years to come.”
Singapore was given a taste of the Laneway Festival in February this year, with Florence and The Machine, The XX and Echo & the Bunnymen playing triumphant shows before wildly appreciative crowds. The Laneway team is super excited about Singapore punters’ response to having an entire Festival line-up this January - a line up that includes one band exclusive to the Singapore Festival (more on that in a moment!).
Proudly presenting the line-up for Singapore – in alphabetical order the most exciting acts of this year and next…
